What Portraits Are Available?

Our olde tyme photo sessions are truly one-of-a-kind, and are totally unique to Leadville. Unlike other businesses who offer a multitude of generic sessions, we offer exclusively only a handful of customized Leadville costumes and sittings:

Perhaps the most famous of the nation's rags-to-riches-and-back-to-rags story is the story of Horace and Baby Doe Tabor. Once reputed to spend an average of $10,000/day, we've created a tycoon costume and beautiful flowing Victorian gown (typical of the "Top Hats and Tenderloin" era) where you can portray the tycoon Horace Tabor and his blue eyed "baby", Baby Doe.

J.J. Brown and his famous wife Margaret "Unsinkable" Molly Brown of Titanic fame also made their fortune at the little Johnny Mine right here in Leadville. With custom costumes, designed from historical photos, you can portray this famous couple in tycoon and Victorian dress.

For years, as Doc Holliday moved across the country fighting his tuberculosis, a prostitute nicknamed "Big Nosed Kate" followed him. From his days in New Mexico, Arizona and finally Colorado, "Big Nosed Kate" later claimed Doc had married her. She was at his bed in Glenwood Springs, Colorado when he finally died. Holliday's last shoot-out occurred right here in Leadville at Hyman's Saloon. You can portray this famous gambler/gun fighter and his paramour "Big Nosed Kate" as they probably appeared in their hey-day.

During the silver boom of the late 1800's, Leadville spawned many a con man, but none so famous as Jefferson "Soapy" Randolph Smith. Run out of Leadville for conning one too many hard working miners, "Soapy" became famous for his "soap con", bilking miners by selling soap to them with the hope there was money wrapped inside. You can portray "Soapy" and his "tenderloin" wife with costumes designed from early historic photos.

Sessions:

Our olde tyme photo sessions, located in the Brass Ass Saloon (just through the swinging doors from our restaurant area) are available all day from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm most days of the week. Walk-ins are welcome, although we also accept reservations. Each session lasts roughly 30 minutes… you can wait for your photos once you've reviewed them, or shop the stores of Leadville and come back later to pick them up.

Because of the unique nature of our costumes, we can only accommodate TWO persons per setting (individual portrait settings also available). Sorry, but this year we don't have children's costumes and restrict our sessions to adults only.

Disclaimer/Guarantee:

We shoot in full digital format with state of the art printer and digital camera. Each session includes 5 "takes" to make sure you can select one that you are satisfied with. If you are unhappy with any of the "takes" in your first session, we are happy to re-shoot in 5-shot sessions at an additional charge of $15/session. If for any reason you are unsatisfied with the final product, there is no charge. We will adjust color (if you've asked for color prints), size, etc., based on our standards that we feel will make the best finished prints.

All final printed photographs become your property, although we will maintain the original disk here for 6 months in the event you want re-prints later. We ask that if you use your photos for any commercial use, that you respect copyright laws and provide proper credit. No alterations of any photos used by you for public display are authorized. The Golden Burro Café & Lounge (Brass Ass Saloon) will NOT, for any reason without your expressed written permission, use your photos for any purpose other than your own personal use.
