This Month

in Leadville History:

December

It was hard times in the autumn of 1895 for Leadville, and folks here were looking for new ideas to bring visitors to this “Magic City”... It took a man named Tingley S. Wood to step up with a unique and amazing idea: “Leadville has never yet done anything by halves... We are going to build the most majestic and unrivalled Crystal Carnival...”

And the construction of an amazing palace made of ice began.  The story of this amazing project, which included a skating rink 190 feet long, (which accommodated curling, dining, gaming, and racing) along with countless other activities

can be had by stopping in at the Golden Burro for the

whole story!
